8:50-9:00 Opening Ceremony on Greyhound Lanes
9:00-9:05 Walk in, lunch count, roll
9:05-9:55 Specialist Classes Monday- PE, Tuesday – Art, Wednesday – PE, Thursday – Music, Friday – Library
9:55-10:15 Literacy Block (Instructional Focus – LA Power Standard/Benchmark 7.5.4 Use Rules of Capitalization)

Obj. Use phonics, and syntax to determine the meaning of words. 1.5.2 Know roots and affixes from Greek and Latin to analyze meaning. 1.5.3 Use dictionaries and glossaries to determine meanings, and features of words. 1.5.4 Use context clues to determine the meaning of unknown words. 1.5.5
Proc. Monday – pass out vocabulary List 19 and introduce words. Access students’ prior knowledge. Tuesday – Students look up words in dictionary and record meanings. Wednesday – Skits in groups. Thursday – Word Wall Activities - Friday – Students take test.
Eval. Teacher observation, collect and correct vocabulary activities and test.
Mater. Vocabulary lists, basic classroom supplies.
10:15-10:30 Spelling WW, SJ, DC Groupings (See List)
Obj. Use spelling strategies to spell correctly. Spell correctly frequently used words, with special attention to roots, and suffixes. 7.5.5
Proc. Monday – pass out spelling List 19 and students complete an open sort. (See lists) Tuesday and Wednesday – Students will study words and choose two activities from a menu of spelling activities.
Thursday – Class spelling game. Friday – Spelling test.
Eval. Teacher observation, collect and correct spelling activities and tests.
Mater. Spelling lists, spelling menu, basic classroom supplies.
10:30-11:15 Writing Workshop I Have a Dream Unit-See entire unit plan LA PS 6.5.3, 5.5.6, 8.5.1, 8.5.2
Day Nine: 9.5.3, 8.5.1, 8.5.2
Students will deliver their dream speeches in front of the class. Teacher will use a rubric to evaluate them. Groups will give feedback.
11:15-11:55 Reading Workshop Biographies Unit LA PS 2.5.3, 2.5.4, 3.5.4, 3.5.7,
/Meet with Groups, Begin 2nd Flynt Cooter Assessment
Obj. Students will become familiar with reading biographies.
Proc. Students will select four biographies to read. They will fill out their biography hand out about each person of interest studied. Then they will select one person to become for a wax museum in February. They will continue study of this person’s life on the Internet.
Eval. Collect handouts, teacher observation at wax museum.
Mater. Biography handout, Internet, biographies.
12:05-12:45 Lunch/Recess
12:45-2:00 Math (Instructional Focus – Math Power Standard/Benchmark 1.5.5 Multiply multi-digit numbers by two-digit numbers by two digit numbers with and without regrouping including powers of ten.)
Obj. Students will divide decimals by whole numbers. Math PS 1.5.5
Proc. Whole group – Read and discuss Chapter 4 Lesson 11 p. 234-235, students will complete the “Check” problems orally with a partner, students will complete the “Practice” problems individually on scratch paper and then compare their answers with another member of their group, students will complete
Handout P 4-11 and E 4-11 in class or at home as time permits.

2:00-3:00 Science Mixtures and Solutions Unit E Building Blocks of Matter, Chapter 1, Lesson 2
Obj. Students will learn about the three states of matter.
Proc. Activity on page E12. Read and discuss E12-E19. Students will answer review questions on page E19 with their learning group.
Eval. Teacher observation, collect and correct work.
Mater. Science text E books, ice cubes, plastic bags, balance, thermometer, beaker, safety goggles, hot plate.
